About
Joaquin/Ann Contreras
In 2006, Joaquín Contreras embarked on a bold journey from Texas to Junction City, Kansas, with nothing but an F150 bed full of tools, unwavering faith in God, and a dream to build a concrete company. Leaving his wife Ann and family behind in Texas, Joaquín aimed to create a lasting legacy through his company, T&M Concrete, named after his two sons, Tracy and Matthew.
Starting with just a few acquaintances in a new town, Joaquín quickly learned that honesty, integrity, and quality were the keys to earning repeat customers. Word-of-mouth advertising became his best ally. Initially working only two or three days a week, he focused on building sidewalks and driveways.
In 2007, T&M Concrete took a significant leap forward by purchasing its first curb and gutter machine through a partnership. This allowed the company to work as a subcontractor on various subdivisions and streets in Junction City. That same year, Ann moved from Texas to Junction City to help with the business administration. However, the partnership soon turned sour after the construction of Strauss Boulevard, leaving Joaquín with unpaid bills and a seemingly hopeless situation.
Despite the challenges, Joaquín's determination and faith in God saw him through. He promised to pay off all debts and achieved this within two years. In 2008, as the local economy slowed down, T&M Concrete expanded its reach, building hotels across the state while continuing to work on driveways, sidewalks, and occasional city improvement projects in Junction City.
Joaquín's journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, faith, and hard work. T&M Concrete stands as a symbol of his dedication and the lasting impact he aimed to create for his family and community.
Matthew Contreras
Matthew's spent his high school summers working for T&M in Kansas. Together with the Work Ethic instilled by his Mother and Father, he developed a passion for construction early on. After graduating from high school, Matthew attended Kansas State University, where he earned a degree in Construction Science Management in 2013. During this time, he also married his lovely wife, Alma, and together they have built a beautiful family with four children.
Upon graduation, Matthew joined T&M full-time, immersing himself in the field to master the craft. His hands-on experience, combined with his academic knowledge, allowed him to take on more ambitious projects. This fresh start marked the beginning of T&M's journey into incorporating leading-edge technology.
In 2018, T&M acquired its first laser screed, significantly enhancing their ability to place slabs, parking lots, and streets with greater volume and efficiency. The following year, they upgraded their curb and gutter machine to include underbelly sidewalk paving, fully operated with 3D technology using GPS and Total Station.
As T&M continued to grow, expanding their reach from Salina to Wamego, Kansas, the demand for more efficient paving solutions became evident. In 2021, amidst the challenges of the pandemic, T&M invested in a Commander 3 mainline paver with full 3D capability, utilizing multiple Total Stations.
Today, whether it's slabs, parking lots, sidewalk trails, or mainline paving, T&M is equipped with the right technology and expertise to deliver exceptional results.
